Scary Movie 5 was officially confirmed by the Weinstein Company in 2009.^[7][8] David Zucker is expected to be returning as director while the series' main stars Anna Faris, Anthony Anderson and Regina Hall have all expressed interest in returning for the sequel.^[9][10] In June 2011, a release date was announced for April 20, 2012.^[11][12] Zucker expressed interest in spoofing the Final Destination film series, as well as Paranormal Activity, Scream 4, and the Child's Play film series.<sup>[13]
